Beginning September 23 at 7:00 PM, First Baptist Moncton invites you to join our Online Church Book Club as we read and discuss The Power Worshippers by Katherine Stewart, led by Pastor Richard Jackson.
This thought-provoking book examines the rise of Christian nationalism in the United States. While its focus is American, many of the questions it raises are becoming increasingly relevant in Canada as well. Ideas, movements, and political trends often cross borders, making it important for Christians to think carefully about how our faith shapes our response.
Throughout our discussions, we'll explore questions such as:
What is Christian nationalism?
How does it differ from faithful Christian engagement in public life?
How can we love our country while keeping our primary allegiance to Jesus Christ?
What does the Bible teach about our identity, citizenship, and witness?
This book club is not about promoting a political party or telling people how to vote. Instead, it is an opportunity to thoughtfully examine whether the values and methods of any political movement reflect the life and teachings of Jesus.
As Baptists, we have long affirmed religious liberty, freedom of conscience, and the conviction that faith flourishes best when it is freely chosen rather than politically imposed. These convictions provide an important framework for engaging with today's cultural conversations in a way that is both biblical and gracious.
Whether you're already familiar with the topic or simply curious to learn more, you'll find a welcoming environment for respectful conversation, thoughtful questions, and spiritual growth.
