Grounded In The Faith | Message 8: From Total Ruin to Glorious Restoration

This Sunday, Pastor Gary Barr continued our Romans series by walking through Romans 5:12–21 — a powerful passage often called “The Story of Two Adams.”

Paul contrasts Adam, whose disobedience brought sin and death into the world, with Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice brings grace, righteousness, and eternal life. Through one man came condemnation, but through Christ came glorious restoration.

The message challenged us to recognize the reality of sin in our world and in our own hearts. Sin is not only something around us — it is a condition that affects all humanity. Yet the good news of the Gospel is that God’s grace is greater than our guilt.

Pastor Gary reminded us that while Adam’s trespass brought death, Jesus’ obedience brought life. What was broken through selfish disobedience was restored through Christ’s selfless sacrifice on the cross.

One of the central truths of the message was this:
Grace overrides guilt every single time.

Romans 5 reveals that no one earns righteousness through their own efforts. Salvation is a free gift offered through Jesus Christ and received by faith. Where sin increased, God’s grace abounded even more.

Pastor Gary encouraged the church to reflect personally on an important question:
Are you still in Adam, or are you in Christ?

The invitation of the Gospel is clear — no one has to remain trapped in guilt, shame, or spiritual death. Through Jesus, we are offered forgiveness, justification, and new life.

As the message concluded, we were reminded of the beautiful truth captured in the hymn Marvelous Grace:
“Grace that is greater than all our sin.”

No matter our past, God’s grace is wider, deeper, and stronger still.

Join us next Sunday as we continue our journey through Romans in Grounded In The Faith.
