Advent Series (2/5): On The Move

This Sunday we continued our Advent journey with our Never Alone series, focusing on a powerful theme woven all throughout Scripture: movement. Advent is not passive, still, or static. Advent is about a God who moves—who steps into history, who leads His people, and who calls us to live with purpose and forward momentum.

Static Living vs. Dynamic Living

Pastor Richard began by describing two ways we often approach life:

  • Static living — waiting for life to happen to us

  • Dynamic living — choosing to move, act, trust, and take initiative

Advent reminds us that God is never static. The story of Christmas is the story of God in motion—coming into our world, guiding His people, and inviting us to move with Him.

A God on the Move

In Exodus 40, God led the Israelites through the wilderness for 40 years. But instead of letting them remain in one place until a generation passed away, He kept them moving.

Why?
Because a new generation needed to learn dynamic living. They needed to grow up knowing what it meant to follow God step by step, cloud by day and fire by night. Movement formed their faith.

The Bible is full of this pattern:
God moves → God’s people follow → faith grows.

Movement Sparks Movement

In Luke 2, we see angels on the move, Jesus entering the world, and shepherds who rise and go because something holy has stirred them.

The movement of heaven sparked the movement of ordinary people.

  • The angels moved.

  • Jesus moved into our world.

  • The shepherds moved toward Him… and then moved outward to tell others.

That’s how faith spreads. Movement leads to more movement.

Experiencing Jesus Leads to Sharing Jesus

The shepherds didn’t wait until they were trained. They didn’t take a course. They simply shared what they had experienced.

And their words amazed everyone who heard them.

This is the heart of dynamic living—when encountering Jesus naturally leads us to share Jesus.

Living as a Church on the Move

Pastor Richard shared how encouraged he has been to see our church inviting others during this Advent season. Hundreds of Advent cards have been taken and shared within our community—an example of dynamic, movement-led faith.

You don’t need a degree.
You don’t need perfect words.
You simply need your story.
“This is what Jesus has done for me.”
That testimony is powerful.

A Question for All of Us

Are we living dynamically or statically?
Are we waiting for life to happen… or trusting that God is calling us to be on the move?

Just like the Israelites, just like the shepherds, may we be a people who move with God—step by step, invitation by invitation, act of love by act of love.
