Easter at First Baptist Moncton: Encounter on the Road to Emmaus

Hello friends,

Believe it or not, it’s just a few short weeks until Easter. At our Easter services this year I will be speaking on “ENCOUNTER ON THE ROAD TO EMMAUS.” In this message, we’ll look at the story of two followers of Jesus who encounter the risen Christ while walking along a road—yet fail to recognize Him! This is a message many people in Moncton need to hear.

So, let me ask you: will you work with me to move beyond simply hoping people will come to church to actually inviting relatives, friends, neighbours, and co-workers to come with you? Did you know that people are more likely to respond to an invitation to church at Easter than at any other time of the year? What a tragedy it would be if we missed this golden opportunity to share the Gospel.

So, specifically, what can you do? Let me suggest several things:

  1. Begin now to ask God prayerfully whom He would like you to invite.

  2. When you have a sense of God’s leading, approach the person about coming to church. Remember, don’t just invite them to church—offer to bring them.

  3. Pray that God will speak to your friend through the music and message of the service. Pray, too, that many others will commit their lives to Christ as well.

  4. When you and your friend arrive at church, introduce them to others. In addition, greet everyone around you. There will be lots of first-time visitors, so helping them feel welcome is important.

I am so excited about the Easter services we have planned. And believe me, the music will be incredible! It will be a day not to be missed—and it could even become the greatest day of your friend’s life.

Please join us as well for our other special Holy Week events. On March 29, we will celebrate a special Palm Sunday service as we commemorate the beginning of Holy Week. Then, on Good Friday (April 3), we will remember Jesus’ sacrifice in a special choral presentation titled “When All Seems Lost.”

Please accept this letter as our invitation to join us during Holy Week and on Easter Sunday as we remember and celebrate the death, resurrection, and reign of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s use Holy Week as a time to deepen our own faith while encouraging others in their spiritual journey.

We’ve attached a schedule of our services, and we hope you’ll join us. Our prayer is that these Holy Week services will fill you with joy—no matter your circumstances or the challenges you may be facing.

Finally, please prayerfully consider your Easter gift this year. In these challenging days, I am asking you to stand with us as we continue reaching out to our community with the Gospel. There are several convenient ways to support our ministries and outreach online at firstmoncton.com, and of course you can always bring your offering in person during our Sunday morning services.

Thank you in advance for your sacrificial support as we step out together in faith.

Please worship with us in person during Holy Week and on Easter Sunday, or join us online at firstmoncton.com. And remember—please invite a friend to come with you!

In the joy of Christ,

Pastor Richard
