The One That Matters
Reflection on a message shared by Philip Oyeniran, Director of International Ministries
In his heartfelt message, “The One That Matters,” Philip invited us into a deeply personal story—growing up as one child among seventeen, carrying expectations, responsibilities, and an ache to be seen. From that place, he led us to a powerful truth found in Luke 15: in God’s kingdom, every single person matters.
Jesus tells the story of the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to search for the one who is lost. Not because the ninety-nine are unloved—but because love pursues. God’s love refuses to give up on the one who feels unseen, unworthy, or far away.
Philip reminded us that Jesus didn’t come to impress the religious elite. He came to tell stories that reveal God’s heart—a heart that eats with sinners, welcomes the outsider, and searches relentlessly for the lost. When the Shepherd finds the sheep, there is no scolding. No punishment. Only joy. Only love. The lost one is lifted onto His shoulders and carried home.
Whether you feel like you belong among the ninety-nine or you identify as the one who wandered, the message is the same: you matter to God. You are not here by accident. You are seen, known, and deeply loved.
The question left with us is simple—and profound:
Do you want to be found?
