Light from Light: The Humanity and Divinity of Jesus Christ

Pastor Richard Jackson reminded us of the foundation stones of our Christian faith through the words of the ancient Nicene Creed and the Gospel of John. Together, we reflected on the mystery of Jesus Christ—true God and true man—and why this truth remains central to our salvation.

The Nicene Creed, written almost 2,000 years ago, affirms: “Light from light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of the same essence as the Father”. These words were not written lightly; they were a careful response to questions that challenged the very nature of Jesus.

Pastor Richard emphasized why this matters: If Jesus were not fully God, His sacrifice could not have been sufficient for the sins of the world. And if He were not fully man, He could not have died on behalf of humanity. Both His divinity and humanity are essential to the Gospel message.

John 1:1 confirms this truth: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Word became flesh, lived among us, and revealed God’s glory full of grace and truth. This is the hope we celebrate: that Jesus came into the world to bring light into our darkness and to give us the right to become children of God.

As the Creed proclaims, Jesus was crucified, buried, and rose again on the third day, securing life for all who believe. And together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, He reigns eternally—our true foundation of faith.

The Nicene Creed is more than history; it is a living declaration of what we believe as followers of Christ. As Pastor Richard invited us to recite together, may we always remain faithful to God’s Word and the truth it reveals about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
