Sundays at First

The Bridge: 9:00 AM

First Baptist Moncton is a unique church. You can participate in our new contemporary form of worship, The Bridge on Sunday at 9:00 am. It presents music in a new modern style using the leadership of the Worship Band and also uses multimedia graphics for praise and Bible reading. The seating is less formal but very warm and accepting.

At 8:50 am, the Nursery opens for children aged birth to just under 3 years of age.  Children and youth join their families in the service and at 9:15 am children aged 3 to grade 3 are dismissed from the Bridge, with parental permission. They are joined by a team of teachers who take them downstairs to the room under the chapel. This is an interactive and hands-on teaching time. Parents are asked to pick up their children downstairs following the service.

Sunday School

High School and Middle School Sunday School begins at 10:15 am and ends at 11:00 am.  At 10:30 am, Sunday School for the younger children begins.  Parents are encouraged to bring their children and youth to the gym for our new opening. Parents of preschool and elementary-aged children will be invited to sign in their children and ensure registrations are up to date. This will be a time of fun, singing, Scripture memorization and celebration.  At 10:55 am, Sunday School children who were dropped off at the gym will make their way to the sanctuary to join the rest of the congregation in the first part of the worship service. They will be seated at the front of the church with some of our leadership team. At 11:00 am Youth Sunday School Classes begin.

Traditional Worship Service: 11:00 AM

Our traditional sanctuary worship service is held at 11:00 am every Sunday morning.  The atmosphere of this worship service is reverend and classic in an architecturally beautiful sanctuary, accompanied by a 50-voice choir and pipe organ.

At 11:20 am, the Children’s Story will take place in the Traditional Service and children who have not been dropped off at the gym will be invited to come for the Children’s Story and join the children from the opening. They will be dismissed from the sanctuary to go with their teachers to Sunday School Classes.

Choices of Music Style

Music has always been a central part of worship services in the history of First Baptist Church Moncton. The church offers two distinct styles of worships encompassing distinct styles of music. The three manual, 2,214 pipe Casavant Organ and Yamaha Baby Grand piano in the Sanctuary along with the 50 person choir support beautiful worship music in the 600 seat Sanctuary. The church features numerous instrumentalists: trumpet, flute, harp, guitar, violin, piano at various times throughout the year. The traditional worship service (11:00 am on Sundays) offers a variety of musical styles: traditional Baptist hymns, gospel, classical, classical contemporary choral jazz, spirituals and an informal homecoming selection. In addition, there are special musical events during the year, including special services at Easter and Christmas.

Catering to those with modern music preferences, the worship band plays contemporary worship music and provides the primary music for the Bridge service at 9:00 am on Sundays. The worship band includes acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keyboard, bass, violin, and vocalists.

Sanctuary Choir

First Baptist Church Moncton features one of the largest sanctuary choirs in southeastern New Brunswick. The multi-generational group of men and women seek to provide a high standard of choral leadership within the traditional worship service each Sunday. The sanctuary choir sings a wide variety of styles of choral music and often provides soloists, duets and small ensembles. The choir is open to those who wish to join and praise the Lord through voice.

Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir started in the mid-1960s with three octaves Schulmerich Handbells and has grown to over 4 octaves with 53 bells. The 12 member Adult Handbell Choir, plays regularly in the traditional worship service as well as outside the church. First Baptist also has handbell soloists and handbell ensembles which contribute to the worship services. The Handbell Choir has three octave (37) hand chimes, played by both the adult and children’s choirs. There is always is an opportunity for both adults and children interested in learning to ring bells.  For more information on the Handbell Choir, click here.

Children’s Choir

Open to children aged 3 to 13, the Children’s Choir sings once a month in the traditional worship service. The children minister to the congregation through their music, but also learn about God’s Word through the music they sing and music activities. All children are invited to join in on the fun.

Nursery is provided for infants to age 3 during both services. The nursery is located on the 3rd floor of the Christian Education building.
